As with our other visits to Monarch Bay, the scores reflect the difficulty of the
course, especially when the wind blows. Fortunately, the breezes were not as
strong as they usually are this time of year but they were still strong enough
to make the final four holes quite difficult. That observation applied
especially to the tough par 5 16th hole where double bogies and higher were not
In the First Flight, low gross went to Karl Moberg, a seven handicap, playing as a guest of
Tournament Director Jim Breedlove. His 85 was a testament to the problems encountered when
one strays from the fairways. John Frykland took low net at
one over par 72 despite a quad on the sixteenth hole. Rick Wheat
finished second just a stroke behind at 73 while Rober Breedlove,
another guest and Jim's son took third with a 76.
Second Flight low gross went to Marshall Armstrong with a 91
while Jim Breedlove took low net with a 70 and was the only
player to come in under par. James Kaku finished second
with a 77 while Jay Zimmer's 78 was good enough for third.
