We traveled a couple of exits south from Palo Alto to Shoreline Golf Links in Mountain View. The day started out very windy due to a passing weather system but ended up being quite pleasant. Twenty-nine players showed up for the event and the club's annual meeting which followed. Those who stayed around following the golf heard from various board member about the state and the future of the club.
The tournament was divided into three flights with prizes and TOC points awarded for low gross and low net results. In the First Flight, Jim Cowie took the low gross with a fine 75 on the par 72 course. Low net went to Brad Miller at four under 68. The win boosted his lead in the TOC points chase to 47 over his nearest competitor. Stephen Suleski and Jack Simpson tied for second at even par 72.
Second Flight winners included John Frykland who captured low gross with an 81. Low net went to John Osness with a 75 while Darien Arends took second with a 76. Neither showed reluctance to accept their winnings despite the higher than usual scores.
The familiar Arends name popped up twice in the Third Flight when Ken Arends won low gross with a 90. Ken's father and Darien's grandfather Bob Arends shared low net honors with club VP James Kaku at four under 68.
Congratulations to the winners and thanks for coming out.
